Six Reds Championship Day 3

With the Six Reds tournament now entering the crucial stage, players were very conscious of the fact that the knockout stage of the competition was looming. The talk of the day had to be that of a resurgent Jimmy White who has now made it to last 16 with a thumping win over Mohamed Khairy, 5-1. The Londoner has been on been on a roll in recent month, winning three of the Seniors events, most recently defeating Darren Morgan at the Crucible. Jimmy next plays Stephen Maguire in a tough battle that could see him add another scalp to his winning page.Perhaps the winning streak is infectious as Ken Doherty also achieved a good win against Alexis Callewaert, 5-2.

With the top seeds progressing nicely. Bingham, Ding, Dott, Selby, Gary and Kyren Wilson all won their matches but unfortunately both Reanne Evans and Ng On Yee lost their matches 2-5 and 1-5. This is a great shame because I thought this really was going to be a good opportunity for the women in the sport to shine against the men but no such luck. On the flip side though, it is great to see the women of the sport compete against the men and hopefully this will become a regular occurrence on the tour as time goes on. The knockout stage looks interesting with some very interesting matches including:

Suwannawat 🇹🇭 vs. Carter 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Maguire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 vs. White 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Ding 🇨🇳 vs. Dott 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
G Wilson 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 vs. Yan 🇨🇳
Bingham 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 vs. Selby 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Higgins 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 vs. Wu 🇨🇳
Gilbert 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 vs. K Wilson 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Williams 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 vs. Perry 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

This will be a clash of the top players and the only potential shock in my view is from Jimmy White but he would have to hold his game together to have any chance. This game suits him because it is quick and short, allowing him to display his game that we know and love. However as we know, jimmy can lose focus in a match which as a fan is very frustrating. Kyren Wilson and Mark Williams have to be great candidates to win this event with Wilson winning last year and Mark being so relaxed in any tournament. I have visions of him falling off his chair.
