Life as a snooker blogger
I have always had a passion for snooker but recently found out that I have a talent for creative writing. My first taste for this when I wrote a blog on the UK Championship several years ago and I was able to combine my own knowledge of the game with drawing on my snooker contacts to contribute to the piece. The response was very positive from readers and people said I had a flair for writing.
However, following a rebuff from Riley’s for future blogs, I put down my creative pen and shut it in a drawer for a while as dejection set in. It wasn’t until several months ago that I started again, writing small blogs on my Facebook page for my followers. Again the reaction was positive and I then dabbled with vlogging on Instagram with video pieces. However I didn’t feel comfortable with this medium and so returned to the written blog.
Having become recently single, has given me the freedom to travel and watch live snooker events in places I never dreamt of visiting. My recent trip to Berlin to watch the German Masters was amazing and I got to spend time with my friend Thorsten Müller, a World Snooker referee, experience the sights of Berlin and soak up the atmosphere of the Tempodrom. This really is the best tournament that I have ever attended, it has a brilliant venue, a large knowledgable German audience and I was able with my player’s pass to see the buzz of the backstage first hand.
Having only been to the Masters at Alexandra Palace, my recent trips really have been special and allowed me again to visit my second homeland Wales when I went to the Welsh Open in Cardiff, attending my very first, snooker final. Wales really is a hot bed of snooker and it was great to meet some of my Facebook friends at last including the former professional player Darren Morgan who was commentating for BBC Wales.
This new freedom has spurred me on to blog and I have been writing daily for several months on various subject matter around snooker. Thankfully my ideas have never dried up and I have been able to think of a subject daily and a eye catching title along with a photograph from daily research. I thank my friends in and outside the world of snooker for their constant support and love this new outlet for expressing my love for snooker.
